Potty training has been a lot harder than I thought it would be! I’ve always been ready for the day Sydney was out of diapers/pull-ups but feared training her. Then, the week of Nathan and Kacey’s wedding, she decided she wanted to start potty training! She wasn’t even 2 yet. I was so surprised & excited that she was so willing. However, that was an insane week. So, I didn’t push it. I figured we’d hit it hard when we got home the next week. Wrong plan! haha We got home. She decided she most certainly did NOT want to go in the potty. She was fine with diapers! (sigh)
Sydney has known how to go in the potty for the last year and a half. She has just been stubborn. There really is no other word for it. It really bothered me that she was being so stubborn (although she does come by that trait honestly–the stubbornness, not the lack of desire to use the potty!). I talked to her pediatrician about it last year at her check-up. He was very kind to me & told me that you cannot control a child in 3 areas: eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom. You can entice them, discipline them, and encourage them…but you cannot make them. That made me feel better…a little anyway.
For the last year an a half, I have brought it up, enticed, rewarded, disciplined, pulled back all when needed. FINALLY over the last few weeks, Sydney has decided that she wants to be a big girl! In the few weeks she has gone from not wanting to at all to going all the time in the potty. The only time she has accidents are when she’s sleeping at night. Woohoo!! 🙂
A friend of mine promised me that she would not go to kindergarden in pull-ups. She also told me she knew I wouldn’t believe that comment until it happened. She knows me oh, so well! haha Thanks, Alicia, for the encouragement!!
So, today, we are doing the potty dance!
