Changes are coming…

Standard

As most of you have read, I have endometriosis. Up until this episode, I really didn’t know much about it. Truthfully, I just took the word of the doctors & didn’t do any research. Over the past 24 hours I have done a TON of research on what endometriosis is & how to treat it…something I should have done a long time ago.

I have learned that you can rarely get rid of endometriosis. You can manage & make it dormant, but rarely can you say you’ve been cured. That was news to me. All the doctor’s I have talked to have said we will try to rid me of it. Of course, that is the ultimate goal. However, it might be unattainable.

Learning that information really has changed the way I look at this disease. I am now trying to find things that I can do in my daily life to help make this disease much more manageable. Everything that I have found points to my diet & vitamins. I can’t say that I was jumping for joy at this news. Of course the vitamins is easy. However most of the foods that I should stay away from are foods I LOVE like: wheat, red meats, dairy products, refined sugar, caffeine, and the hardest one…chocolate! There are many more on the list of foods that are off-limits. Those are just the ones that really hit me hard. It left me saying, “What can I eat?!” I definitely couldn’t have had the lasagna that I had last night!!

The list of the “bad foods” is much longer than the ok list. I probably won’t follow it to a “T”, but changes are going to have to be made. I’m currently taking Lupron shots that will last for 6 months. My choices were that or a 3rd surgery. Since I’m just shy of being 30, that leaves many years ahead to be dealing with this. Obviously, I can’t take these shots for the rest of my life & it wouldn’t be safe to have surgery after surgery.

So, my mind is made up. A change in my diet is in order. I can’t say I’m excited about it. I will say that I will be cheating on Thanksgiving & Christmas! This will be a hard change since I’m a picky eater. However, if it is a change that will help me be a better wife and mother, it’s a change that needs to be made. I’ll keep you posted!

If you have recipes or ideas to eat organically without killing your pocketbook, I’d LOVE to hear them!!

  1. You should see if there is some sort of local organic produce co-op in your town. My parents get a basket from one in their town and I know there is one in Fort Worth. Basically you just pay a fee based on frequency, and you get a basket of locally grown produce. You don’t get to pick the produce, because they give you an assortment of what’s in season. But it is very fresh and a great way to try new things. My mom is always trying to find recipes to use her latest produce basket. And of course it supports your local growers.

  2. I feel your pain. Reagan is allergic to 7 things: eggs, diary, apples, berries, corn, nuts, and one more (I can’t remember!!) She has an ID badge on her bag to help me remember. That took A LOT of my receipes out of my cookbook. She is two and I am finally feeling like I can cook for her without her having a reaction. I spent many hours in grocery stores reading labels!! Maybe we can exchange some receipes. Once we are unpacked I will look through mine.

  3. It is TOO many “no-nos”. I’m trying to stay motivated, but it is hard! As I’m now grocery shopping, I find myself in the grocery lost at where to start & what to buy. Organic guru (Sara), I could use any help as to how to start eating organically without overspending. Any ideas you have, will be GREATLY appreciated!!
